Vasquez Rocks in Santa Clarita
2017 | FALL
* Easy Peasy
One of the many wonders of California is that you can find a sample of almost all the ecosystems very close to each other. And one of the most underrated ones? The desert!
With plants of all colors, shapes and sizes, rock formations are spectacular - living mini-mountains in the desert. When I learned I could walk atop the Vasquez Rocks, I immediately knew I’d have to pay a visit. 🧗🏽♀️
Last October, I wanted to meet my best friend somewhere in the middle of our addresses, she lived in Lancaster and I’m in Long Beach. I looked at the map and noticed this Historical Landmark Film Site for Star Trek* right below Lancaster. I got filled with curiosity and we both liked the idea!
Since the site is a regional park, there is an information center open during business hours where you can refill your water bottle, read a little bit of history and use a restroom. My friend and I stopped there first to get a map of the different trails and off we went after choosing the path that took directly to the Rocks, as we were eager to walk and take the pictures and videos of the fantastic views!
Getting there felt like a nice walk through a ranch. Surprisingly, it wasn’t a challenge to hike the rocks up (it does not require any type of rock-climbing gear) and there was also a group of pre-teens hiking down with their instructor; they all seemed to be having a good time, meaning this is a hike suitable for all ages.
The area is definitely very open and sunny, so do not forget to wear your sunscreen when you visit!
*If you’re a Trekkie, this place should definitely be in your bucket list! Hundreds of other tv shows, films, and commercials have used the Rocks as their background! Site legend.
